Błonia w Krakowie

Błonia to obszerny park miejski, który dawniej pełnił funkcję pastwiska gminnego. Zajmuje powierzchnię 48 hektarów i jest otoczony ulicami al. 3-go Maja, ul. Piastowską, ul. Na Błoniach (biegnącą wzdłuż rzeki Rudawy) oraz al. marszałka Ferdynanda Focha.

Podczas niemieckiej okupacji planowano zabudować Błonia. Miały zostać zastąpione przez kompleks reprezentacyjnych budynków rządowych, a kopiec Kościuszki miał być zrównany z ziemią. Istniały również plany umieszczenia bram skierowanych w stronę kopca, który miałby stać się pomnikiem zwycięstwa Wehrmachtu.

Historia tego miejsca to także historia wypasu bydła w mieście. W 1834 roku zakazano wypasu krów na Plantach i zostawiono Błonia jako jedyny legalny teren dla tego celu. W okresie II Rzeczypospolitej architekci Gałęzowski i Szyszko-Bohusz opracowali pomysł na dzielnicę otaczającą Błonia.
